Formulas
- Seller revenue = item price + shipping charged to the buyer.
- Estimated buyer tax = seller revenue × entered tax rate.
- Fee base = seller revenue + estimated buyer tax.
- eBay fees estimated = tiered percentage fee + per-order fee + listing fee entered.
- Net profit = seller revenue − estimated eBay fees − entered product, shipping, packaging, ad and other costs.
- Profit margin = net profit ÷ seller revenue × 100.
Money is rounded to the nearest cent, with half cents rounded up. Tax is rounded first. Tiered percentage fees are added before the percentage fee is rounded. Actual invoice rounding or adjustments may differ.
Limits to check
- Basic/Premium/Anchor/Enterprise Store rates
- Top Rated Plus discounts
- Below Standard or high-return surcharges
- International fees and currency conversion
- Refund fee credits
- Multi-item orders and special shipping-base exceptions
- Automatic promoted-listing attribution or tax jurisdiction lookup
The tax field assumes the entered rate applies to item price and shipping charged together. Shipping taxability and local taxes vary. It does not identify tax jurisdictions. Free shipping means $0 charged to the buyer; enter the actual shipping expense separately.
Ad costs, listing upgrades and overhead are manual dollar inputs. There is no automatic ad attribution or additional PayPal processing fee. No US income tax, return allowance or store subscription allocation is included unless you add the applicable cost yourself.
Price and discount assumptions
The price calculator finds the lowest supported cent price that reaches your dollar target, with a maximum of $1,000,000. The discount tool rounds the discounted item price to cents before recalculating fees. Both keep entered costs and charged shipping fixed.
An official worked example
For a $400 phone, free shipping and 6% buyer tax, the fee base is $424. A 13.6% rate plus $0.40 per order gives a $58.06 final value fee. With $0.35 entered listing fee, fees are $58.41 and proceeds before other costs are $341.59.
